SAFE WATER HEATER FAQs

Water Heater FAQs for Charlotte-Area Homeowners.

Browse common questions about symptoms, safety, repair, replacement, pricing, financing and warranty coverage. Long answers live on the clustered guides—not on one URL per Google query.

PROBLEMS
Why is my water heater not producing hot water? +

Electric units may have a tripped breaker, failed heating element or thermostat. Gas units may have an ignition, pilot, gas-control or venting issue. Turn off the unit if you smell gas, see active leaking or notice damaged wiring, and contact a qualified technician.

Why does the hot water run out so quickly? +

Common causes include a failed lower heating element, thermostat problems, sediment buildup, a broken dip tube, an undersized tank or increased household demand. SAFE can help determine whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

What should I do if the tank is leaking? +

Shut off the water supply and the electrical breaker or gas control if it is safe to do so. A connection or valve leak may be repairable; water from the tank body usually means the tank must be replaced. Keep people and belongings away from standing water.

Why is the water heater popping or rumbling? +

Popping and rumbling often indicate sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank. A technician should evaluate the unit, especially if the noise is new, severe or accompanied by leaking or poor performance.

Why is my hot water rusty, cloudy or smelly? +

Rusty water can relate to corrosion or the anode rod. Odor may involve bacteria, water chemistry or the anode. Cloudiness may be trapped air or mineral content. The correct repair depends on whether the condition appears only on the hot-water side.

Why is my water too hot? +

A thermostat or control setting may be too high or a control may have failed. Do not rely on repeated resets. Scalding water needs prompt professional diagnosis, especially when children or older adults are in the home.

Why does my breaker keep tripping? +

Repeated tripping can indicate a failed element, thermostat, damaged wiring, moisture or another electrical fault. Do not keep resetting the breaker. Leave the unit off and arrange qualified diagnosis.

Why is the relief valve or drain pan wet? +

The source may be thermal expansion, excessive pressure, a relief-valve issue, condensation or an active leak from a fitting or tank. SAFE identifies the source before recommending a repair.

SAFETY
What should I do if I smell gas or a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds? +

Do not operate switches or try to restart the water heater. Leave the property, move to a safe location and contact 911 or the gas utility. This is an emergency, not an online troubleshooting situation.

What if water is touching electrical parts? +

Do not touch the water heater or stand in the water. Isolate power only from a dry, safe location and contact a qualified electrician or plumber. Never work on wet electrical components.

Why is the temperature-and-pressure relief valve continuously discharging? +

Stay clear of the hot discharge and never cap or plug the pipe. Continuous discharge can indicate excessive temperature, excessive pressure, thermal expansion or a valve problem and requires professional evaluation.

What if I see smoke, soot or an abnormal gas flame? +

Shut the equipment down according to its instructions only if it is safe, ventilate the area and do not restart it. Contact a qualified gas or HVAC technician.

SERVICE + REPLACEMENT
Should I repair or replace my water heater? +

Repair may make sense for a newer tank with a replaceable control, element, thermostat, valve or connection issue. Replacement is usually recommended when the tank itself leaks, corrosion is advanced, repair cost is high or the unit is near the end of its expected service life.

What are the most common water heater repairs? +

Common work includes heating elements, thermostats, gas controls or ignition parts, temperature-and-pressure relief valves, expansion tanks, anode rods, drain valves, flex connections, shutoff valves and minor piping corrections. Tank leakage usually requires replacement rather than repair.

How long does a standard replacement take? +

A typical like-for-like tank replacement often takes about 2–4 hours. Gas, difficult access, code corrections, damaged connections, relocation or electrical and venting changes can require more time.

Do I need a 40- or 50-gallon water heater? +

The right size depends on household size, bathrooms, simultaneous use and recovery rate. A 40-gallon electric unit can fit many smaller households; higher demand may justify 50 gallons or another configuration. SAFE confirms sizing before installation.

What is included in the $1,199 promotion? +

The current offer combines a qualifying 40-gallon electric water heater at the $200 promotional equipment price with $999 standard professional installation, plus applicable tax. Non-standard work is reviewed and approved separately.

Does a water heater need an expansion tank? +

An expansion tank may be required in a closed plumbing system or by local code. It must be correctly sized, supported and charged to match the home’s pressure. SAFE checks the existing system before installation.

Does SAFE remove the old water heater? +

Old-tank removal is included in the qualifying standard replacement scope when access and site conditions allow. Special disposal, hazardous conditions or unusually difficult access are reviewed before scheduling.

Can SAFE install tankless or hybrid water heaters? +

Tankless, power-vent and hybrid systems require a custom review of electrical or gas capacity, venting, airflow, condensate, water hardness and installation space. They are quoted separately from the standard 40-gallon electric promotion.

MAINTENANCE
What water heater maintenance should a homeowner schedule? +

Check monthly for visible leaks, corrosion, pan water and temperature changes. Review utility use periodically. A qualified technician can document annual service, safety devices, pressure, tank condition, venting and other model-specific items.

Should every water heater be flushed? +

Flushing depends on the manufacturer instructions, water quality, valve condition, age and service history. An old or heavily corroded tank should be evaluated before disturbing sediment or a fragile drain valve.

What temperature should my water heater use? +

About 120°F (49°C) is a common starting point to reduce scald risk and energy use. Special sanitation needs, mixing valves and manufacturer instructions may require a different professional setup.

PRICING + FINANCING
How does SAFE Financing work with $200? +

A homeowner may request preliminary eligibility to begin with $200 toward a qualifying promotional water heater and finance an eligible standard installation balance. The unit’s applicable manufacturer warranty and SAFE’s installation labor warranty are included with the qualifying installation and are not sold as separate financed products. Final approval and written terms are required.

Does SAFE Financing use a traditional credit-score check? +

SAFE’s preliminary eligibility process is described as no traditional credit-score check. SAFE may verify identity, homeownership, property eligibility and ability to complete the written agreement. Submitting the form is not approval or a financing contract.

What is the Synchrony option? +

Synchrony is a separate third-party financing path. Customers can scan or click the Synchrony QR on this website to continue to Synchrony. Approval, rates, promotions and repayment terms are determined by Synchrony.

Is the $200 SAFE option guaranteed approval? +

No. The $200 describes the amount applied toward a qualifying promotional water heater for approved SAFE Homeowner Plan customers. Property eligibility, installation scope and written payment terms must be reviewed before approval.

Does the Synchrony button use SAFE HVAC Solution’s affiliation? +

Yes. The QR and Synchrony buttons on this website open the application assigned to SAFE HVAC Solution LLC. Synchrony determines approval, rates, promotional offers and repayment terms.

WARRANTY
What warranty comes with the water heater? +

The qualifying unit may include a five-year limited manufacturer warranty, subject to the exact model’s written terms. SAFE provides a two-year limited installation labor warranty for qualifying defects caused by SAFE’s original workmanship, after technician inspection.

How do I register or request warranty service? +

Use the online Warranty Registration page to save the address, installation date, model, serial number and photos. If service is needed, contact SAFE with the registration reference so a technician can review or inspect the condition.
